A short trip upriver brings you to the community of Missão, a place rich with Amazonian history and culture. Here, you’ll connect with the traditions of the indigenous people, learning firsthand about their deep-rooted heritage and ways of life.
As the afternoon winds down, you’ll return to Tefé, where a peaceful birdwatching experience awaits, letting you observe Amazonian birds in their natural habitat. After dinner, you’ll retreat to the comfort of your hotel for a well-deserved rest, ready to dream of the adventures still to come.
Accommodation: Overnight in the jungle camp
On the second day, your adventure deepens as you leave Tefé by speedboat at 6:00 a.m., setting off toward the remote village of Maraã. By noon, you’ll be welcomed into the community with a warm, local lunch, followed by a walking tour through Maraã, where the culture and daily life of the Amazon’s residents come into vivid focus.
At 1:00 p.m., the real jungle tour begins as you travel upriver in a large, covered canoe. Over the next few hours, you’ll catch your first real glimpses of the Amazon’s untouched beauty, with your guides sharing insights into the unique features of the river and jungle as you make your way to Lake Comapi, arriving around 6:00 p.m.
Upon reaching the lake, your guides will lead you in setting up a safe, comfortable campsite. You’ll learn essential jungle skills, from hanging hammocks and securing mosquito nets to storing belongings safely for the night.
With camp prepared, you’ll venture to the lake to try your hand at spearfishing, catching the evening meal alongside your guides. As night falls and dinner is enjoyed, the excitement continues with a thrilling nighttime excursion.
Heading out on the water, your guides will help you search for the elusive black caiman, a creature that has roamed these waters for millennia. The guides will safely capture one, allowing you to observe it up close and learn about its role in this ancient ecosystem before releasing it unharmed.
After the night’s adventure, you’ll return to your lakeside camp, ready to sleep under the stars, immersed in the sounds of the Amazon jungle.
Accommodation: Overnight in Lake Comapi camp
On the third day, you’ll rise early at 5:30 a.m. to witness the stunning sunrise over Lake Comapi, a peaceful start to the day as light filters through the trees, casting a warm glow over the water. Breakfast is served at 7:00 a.m., fueling you for the deeper adventure ahead.
Setting off by speedboat, you’ll journey further into the Amazon until the river narrows, requiring a switch to small canoes for the final stretch toward the rapids. Along the way, the jungle comes to life as you spot native animals, from playful monkeys and vibrant macaws to elusive giant otters and watchful caimans. With guidance, you’ll also get the chance to try bow fishing—a unique Amazonian skill that brings you closer to the river’s ecosystem.
By 11:00 a.m., you’ll reach the rapids and set up camp amidst the lush surroundings. The clear, rushing waters invite you for a refreshing swim, an ideal way to take in the beauty of the jungle around you.
As evening approaches, you’ll gather for another spearfishing session, followed by lessons in traditional hunting techniques for small game. Dinner will be enjoyed under the open sky, and as night falls, the sounds of the rapids will lull you to sleep, closing the day in harmony with the Amazon’s natural rhythms.
Accommodation: Overnight in Lake Comapi camp
The fourth day will start with breakfast beside the Comapi rapids, and then we will begin the four-hour hike to Três Lagos, or Three Lakes.
During the hike, your guides will point out various plants that the indigenous people use for food, medicine, and everyday life. You will also be able to ask questions about the jungle and learn how to spot animal tracks along the path. Because your group will be traveling in a relatively untouched area of the Amazon rainforest, you will have a unique opportunity to see many more kinds of plants and animals than if you were to trek through more commercialized areas.
Once we arrive at Três Lagos, we will hunt for agouti and spotted paca, both of which are large members of the rodent family, similar in appearance to guinea pigs or small capybaras. The afternoon and evening will be spent swimming, relaxing, and once again fishing for our dinner.
Overall, this day will be spent at a more relaxed pace so that you can have adequate time to enjoy the natural beauty of the rainforest and the lakes.
Accommodation: Overnight in the deep jungle camp
The fifth day will begin with breakfast at 8:00 a.m., and then we will prepare for a long, exciting day of canoeing, fishing, and hunting deep in the heart of the jungle.
We will take the hammocks and enough supplies for making an overnight camp deep in the jungle, and then we will set off at 9:00 a.m. in the canoes. Much of the day will be spent paddling up the small, branching creeks of the Amazon river to experience more of the untamed beauty of the rainforest. Throughout the journey, we will hunt, fish, and gather everything we need from the bounty of the jungle.
In the evening, we will set up camp much deeper in this wild portion of the jungle, and you will have the opportunity to get close to birds, rodents, reptiles, insects, and animals that you will likely never get to see anywhere else.
Accommodation: Overnight in Maraã Lake camp
The day begins at 5:00 a.m., offering a magical chance to watch the rainforest awaken with the sunrise. After a quick breakfast, you’ll return to the lakeside base camp to pack up for the next leg of your adventure.
Once camp is broken down, you’ll journey to Agua Branca, or White Lake, where an entirely new ecosystem awaits. The surroundings here reveal a different side of the Amazon, with unique wildlife, trees, and plants that create a fresh and fascinating contrast.
Your day will be filled with Amazonian traditions—fishing for piranha, birdwatching, and observing the stealthy black caimans. Using bows, spears, and nets, you’ll catch fresh fish for dinner, rounding out a day steeped in the culture and skills of the jungle. As evening approaches, you’ll head back to Maraã Lake, where you’ll set up camp, settling in for a restful night beneath the jungle canopy.
Accommodation: Overnight in the slow boat cabin
On day seven, you’ll greet the sunrise with a peaceful breakfast overlooking the serene lake—a perfect moment to savor the Amazon’s beauty one last time. The morning offers leisure time to swim, birdwatch, or simply soak in the surroundings, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of the jungle.
By mid-morning, the camp will be packed up, and at 11:00 a.m., you’ll board a spacious, comfortable boat for the return journey from Maraã to Manaus. As you glide down the river, you’ll have time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past days, carrying unforgettable memories of the Amazon back with you.
Accommodation: Overnight in the slow boat cabin
The final full day of your Amazon journey is dedicated to pure relaxation as you travel by boat, just as the locals do. With a spacious deck for strolling, you’ll have panoramic views of the river and the sprawling jungle, a breathtaking sight that shifts with every bend in the waterway.
