9 days – Maraã Paradise Lake

Transport option for tours with 4 people or more: Flight from Manaus to Tefé. The plane departures from Manaus at 09:00 in the morning and arrives in Tefé at 10:00. From Tefé we will go by private speedboat to Maraã. We will arrive in Maraã in the evening after a long days journey. This evening we will relax and have a walk around the town of Maraã. Tonight we will sleep in the family house of Amazon Deep Jungle Tours owner, Eduardo Tenhave.

Transport option for tours with 3 people or less: We will leave by boat from Manaus at 06:00 on Sunday morning and arrive in the town if Tefé at 20:00 on Sunday evening. We will spend the night at a hotel in Tefé before leaving with the speedboat for Maraã on Monday morning at 06:00. We will be in Maraã at 14:00 on Monday afternoon. (Flying to Tefé is optional at extra cost)

We have breakfast in Maraã this morning before we begin our journey at around 10:00. We are going to Paradise Lake, which is a 7 hours boat ride from Maraã. On the way to the lake we will stop to set up camp and fish for our lunch and dinner. The fresh caught fish of the Amazon river is absolutely delicious. That night we will sleep on the riverside of the Amazon river.

Breakfast will be served around 07:30 and after that we will continue that last part of the boat ride to the lake. We will arrive at the lake around midday. After arriving to the lake we will set up our hammocks in the lake house where we will sleep. We will go on a small observation around our camp and begin explaining you a little bit about the flora and fauna of the Amazon jungle.

We will stay around camp this evening as we are going spearfishing after the sun has settled. You are in for a real treat here. Spearfishing is a really fun activity where you get to see our awesome guides in action. And off course you are going to spear your own fish tonight. The Amazon river is packed with fish so there is a guarantee you will get to eat good tonight. We will bring our freshly caught fish back to the camp where we will have a lovely feast before settling in for the night. Tonight we sleep in hammocks in the lake house.

We will have breakfast at the lake house around 07:00 before preparing to go to Lake Ira. We will stay at this lake the entire day. We are going to catch fish with fishnet, spears, and bow and arrow. We will have prepare lunch with all the delicious fish we catch and then we will continue to explore this beautiful lake the entire day. Hopefully you will be able to see on the magnificent black caiman swimming in the lake.

We will also do some bird spotting before we head back for the lake house to have dinner. After dinner it’s time to relax and watch the beautiful star filled Amazonian night sky before going to bed. We will sleep in our hammocks in the lake house.

Breakfast at 07:00 this morning and then we are off to go jungle trekking. During our trekking in the Amazon jungle you will learn about the plants and animals of the rainforest. You will get insight into the medicine plants that have been used by the indigenous for thousands of years.

There is also a really good chance you will get to see animals like spiders, monkeys and other species. Very few tourists come to this place, and as such the natural habitat of the animals is not disturbed. Of course there is never a guarantee that the animals are willing to give you a glimpse of their daily life, but out here in the deep amazon jungle, far from civilization, your chances are great.

After the jungle trekking we will return to the lake house to catch some fresh fish for lunch. Then there is some time to relax before we will go out to fish for Tambaqui. Tambaqui is a fish that is in the same family as the infamous Piranha fish. Tambaqui is a vegetarian fish. There are 17 different types of vegetarian and cannibal Piranha fish in the Amazon.

The Tambaqui fish can grow up to 40 cm and weigh about 45 kilo. We will try to catch this fish with fishing rot before heading back to the lake house for dinner. After dinner you can relax and settle in for the night. We will sleep in the lake house tonight.

Breakfast at 07:00 before heading out for the principal Paradise Lake. We are going to stay at this lake for the entire day and we are going to fish for the enormous arapaima gigas fish. This is a preserved lake which means that we are not allowed to take motor boats because it will scare disturb the very precious fish. So we will go by canoes and pedal by hand all day.

The arapaima gigas is the biggest fish of the arapaima family, and it is by far the biggest fish in the Amazon river basin. It can grow up to three meters and weigh more than 200 kilo. You will learn much more about this magnificent animal, about how it lives and hunts, and you will hopefully get to see or catch a real life specimen yourself. In the afternoon we return to the lake house, where we will try to catch some black piranha. After a long day of fishing it is time to have a nice dinner and then relax before going to bed.

We will have breakfast at the lake house and then we will return to Maraã. Here we will visit the municipality and learn about the town culture and history. We will see how they make açai and visit the fishmarket. We will spend the day around the town and talk to the locals and hear a little bit about how it is to live in Maraã. Tonight we will sleep in the family house of Eduardo Tenhave, owner of Amazon Deep Jungle Tours.

Today we will be doing what many people of Maraã do on Sunday. We will go swimming in the beautiful Japurá river and do some riverside fishing, where we will try to catch our lunch. In the afternoon we will take the boat back to Tefé. The boat leaves for Tefé at four o’clock in the afternoon. We will sleep in hammocks on the boat this night.

The boat will arrive in Tefé at 09:00 in the morning. Our flight leaves for Manaus at 12:00 so we have a little time to see the city of Tefé. We will land in Manaus at 13:00 and this will mark the end of our journey.
